The ethical delivery we want to build in Tours
Paying the person who brings the meal decently, without squeezing your margin or the customer: that's the delivery we want to build for the restaurants of Tours.
⚓ Delivery is a channel to come — nothing is built yet. What follows describes how we want to build it (intent and objectives), not a service available today. We're starting out in Tours, with the first restaurants.
A ~30% commission on a ~3% net margin: up to 10× what you keep on the order.
The problem nobody wants to look at
In the gig-economy model, the rider is often a variable that gets squeezed: precarious, unprotected, paid rock-bottom per ride. It's Captain.Food's second fight, alongside the first (the commission eating away at the restaurant). We refuse to fix the first problem by making the second one worse.
How we want to pay for delivery, in plain terms
The objective is to pay the rider at least €7 per ride (an objective, not a fixed rate). We don't hide this cost — it's the only line where you'd chip in, and only on your delivered orders:
- Your share is capped by the margin you set: you declare your floor, we never go below it.
- The customer pays the difference, transparently — never a hidden surcharge.
- Always 0% commission on your dishes: delivery is not a commission in disguise.
An illustrative example: on a delivered order, if the ride costs €7, your share would be limited by your floor (say a few euros), and the customer would top up the rest — seeing it clearly. The full math is on our dedicated page. See the delivery math, example included →
Why it's “ethical”, concretely
Let's compare models: the commission model (~25 to 30%, public sources, 2024) captures value, ships it out of your city and leaves the rider by the roadside. The model we want to build keeps the money with the independents of Tours and wants to employ riders on salary, in time. The carrying structure — the Caring Hope Foundation association (a French loi 1901 non-profit), with a cooperative course (SCIC as the goal) and ESUS accreditation as the objective — is built to prevent any drift into a tollbooth. Frequently asked questions
Is Captain.Food delivery already active in Tours?
No, delivery is a channel to come, not built yet. What's described here is the intent and objectives of the delivery we want to build in Tours, not a service available today.
Who pays the cost of delivery, and how much does it cost me?
Delivery has a real cost: paying the person who brings it decently (objective: at least €7 per ride). You'd only chip in on your delivered orders, up to what your margin allows: you set your floor, we never go below it, and the customer pays the difference transparently. Never a commission on your dishes.
What makes this delivery more ethical?
In the usual model, the rider is often a precarious variable that gets squeezed. We want the opposite: paying riders properly in Tours, with the ambition, in time, of employing them on salary — and keeping the money in the local fabric rather than sending it to a multinational.
