Why “commission-free” changes everything

The average net margin of a restaurant sits around ~3% (Observatoire Fiducial, UMIH/GHR/SNARR 2025). When a delivery platform takes ~25 to 30% commission (public sources, 2024), it can capture ten times your margin on that order. The result: either you inflate your online prices (and customers order less), or you swallow it (and your margin melts away). Passing the commission on doesn't cancel it — it makes your revenue pay for it.

A commission-free channel breaks that circle. An illustrative example: on a €30 order, a ~30% platform can take ~€9; with Captain.Food, it would be €0 on the dish — you keep your €30. See the funding in detail, example included →

So who pays? (real transparency)

The service would be funded by a pay-what-you-want customer contribution, added to their order at a free price: everyone gives what they want to keep a local alternative alive. A customer doesn't contribute? That's fine, no judgment: no contribution on that order, and still 0 commission for you. Card payment fees are the standard banking fees of any online payment — never a percentage on your dishes, never a surcharge added for the customer.
